History of HexArmor

HexArmor Snapshot:

HexArmor is the exclusive manufacturer of PPE (personal protective equipment) made with SuperFabric brand material. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, HexArmor has begun changing the face of the PPE safety industry through the introduction of HexArmor Personal Protective Armor.

President of HexArmor, Steven VanErmen and a partner launched the company in 2003 after purchasing the exclusive license for a technology to make highly cut, puncture- and abrasion-resistant fabrics. This technology enabled HexArmor to make surgical gloves that could stop a hypodermic needle. Today the company specializes in products that protect hands, arms, legs and the chest from cuts and punctures (Michigan Top 50 Companies to Watch, 2006).

HexArmor’s Super Strength:

Every HexArmor product is made with SuperFabric brand material by Higher Dimension Medical, Inc. The “super” qualities of the fabric include higher cut resistance than most products on the market, significantly more so than KEVLAR, as well as greater puncture and abrasion resistance than any product on the market. In addition, this fabric is 100% washable, without compromising product strength or dexterity.

HexArmor’s Cut Resistance:

HexArmor products use SuperFabric brand technology, which provides protection against cuts and slashes like no other material in the world. Cut protection is provided by the tough, hard, guard plates that are adhered to high performance fabrics. It is engineered to provide high levels of protection from very sharp objects such as knives, razor blades and glass (HexArmor, n.d.).

HexArmor’s Puncture Resistance:

Due to their inherent construction, conventional materials such as cotton, leather, aramids, and nylons are unable to stop sharp objects from penetrating through the material. HexArmor products, made with SuperFabric brand material, use tiny guard plates that are adhered to high performance fabrics in order to provide superior puncture protection (HexArmor, n.d.).

HexArmor’s Needlestick Resistance:

HexArmor provides industry leading needlestick resistance. Because the gap between the SuperFabric guard plates is so small, and because multiple layers are used, HexArmor products deliver the highest levels of protection from sharp objects such as needles. As a sharp hazard enters the fabric, it is arrested by one or more layers of fabric as it strikes the guard plates (HexArmor, n.d.).
