ANSI
ANSI is an acronym for the American Nation Standards Institute. Created in 1918, the American Nation Standards Institute is a non-profit, voluntary organization that develops its guidelines and procedures, based on a national consensus process. ANSI is supported by 1000's of companies, trade organizations and professional humanities and receives its funding through private resources. It should also be noted that ANSI Standards are accepted by a wide variety of industries and vendors and primarily focuses its attention on communication and trade guidelines and procedures.
ANSI Z87.1-2003
ANSI Z87.1-2003 addresses general requirements, descriptions and types, testing, marking, selection, care and use of personal safety glasses and face protectors. It includes a new section on warning labels. The new standard also addresses respirators approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
CSA
CSA stands for the Canadian Standards Association, a non profit organization established in 1919 for the purpose of developing standards in Canada and around the world.
Hyperlink
Commonly referred to as a "link" a hyperlink is basically a “clickable” way to retrieve documents, web pages and or other objects on the internet. While a hyperlink is commonly associated with text, graphics and buttons, it can also be used by other means such as clicking on a flash object or movie in order to retrieve a request that your computer has sent to the accompanying server and or computer. Once you click on a hyperlink object your web browser sends a command to your computer that requests a particular internet object and -if successful- displays the web document or object that you have requested.
I/O
I/O is a common abbreviation used in regards to safety glasses and it stands for Indoor / Outdoor, a special light mirror "like" coating that is neither completely dark nor completely clear.
MSDS
Simply stated, MSDS stands for Material Safety Data Sheet. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA ) Hazard Communication System, 29 CFR 1910.1200(g) Manufacturer's are required to identify all the chemical, physical and hazardous information contained in the product(s) they manufacture, that are intended to be sold and or used.
NIOSH
NIOSH stands for National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Created from the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, NIOSH is a federal agency that is part of the CDC (The Center for Disease Control and Prevention) and focuses much of its efforts towards the prevention of occupational related hazards and illness for all working men and women.
NRR
NRR is an abbreviation that stands for the Noise Reduction Rating of a product.
OSHA
OSHA is an acronym for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA is a Federal Agency that is falls directly under the Department of Labor's umbrella and enforces health and safety standards in the work place.
Utradura
Uvex Safety defines ultradura as "an inexpensive coating that gives lenses a good level of scratch resistance and completely absorbs harmful UV radiation."
Uvextreme
Uvex Safety defines Uvextreme as the first Anit-fog lens coating that combines both water absorbing and water spreading technologies.
